The shop owner may look a little rough around the edges, but he's a very nice man, with a huge heart. Will do what he can to help those in need
The building is ancient. The mechanic is graying, gruff, and probably hasn't had his hands completely clean in decades. But he knows his stuff!
He hooked my car up to the computer, told me what it recommended, then ignored all that and found out what was really wrong and fixed it. Instead of ordering a $350 replacement Body Control Module (BCM) that would have taken at least 2 days to arrive, I was billed for 1.5 shop hours during which he pulled out the malfunctioning BCM, blew the water out of it, cleaned up the corroding connections, and mounted it in a place where water coming from the vents couldn't reach it again.
Completely dishonest. Was having misfire issues on my truck as we were approaching Fillmore on a road trip. I have a code reader so I knew I was misfiring on Cylinder 4. Had a similar issue previously on another cylinder, and knew it was likely in need of a spark plug replacement like before. Another local shop was too busy to handle it right away, they suggested this shop. Owner was gruff, which I don't mind. Seemed very knowledgeable, knew the quirks related to my make, model and generation of truck. Seemed honest in his assessment of work involved, time estimated, and associated risks. Got it done quick, I was pleased, and even tipped $20 over the repair bill. Down the road, same issue pops up, code reader says misfire same cylinder. I assumed it must be a different problem with that cylinder, maybe a coil or injector. Cancelled the road trip and brought the truck home, brought into the local shop I know and trust. The plug they pulled out of cylinder 4 was so old and hammered it actually broke off into the cylinder. It's pure luck the broken part was blown out of a valve and did not do serious damage to the cylinder. This is the supposedly new plug that the mechanic in Fillmore replaced. Additionally, the threads on the cylinder were stripped out by the mechanic, and the replacement plug was basically jammed into place, requiring a heli-coil repair. I wish I could include a picture of the plug my local shop gave me, the one they pulled out of cylinder 4, the supposedly new plug installed by this mechanic in Fillmore. This place gets my absolute lowest recommendation.
Good job!
I was stranded on a Saturday night no one was willing to help. Till the Highway patrol called these guys. He came out helped me find parts and took my van to his shop. He worked on it in the rain and got us on our way. Very greatful for his help.
